Фонетика и произношение пали
Пали – это язык, на котором были впервые написаны основополагающие тексты буддизма Тхеравады, наиболее близкий из всех сохранившихся к тому диалекту, на котором говорил сам Будда. У языка пали нет собственного письма, и поэтому каждая страна, воспринявшая буддизм Тхеравады, использует свое собственное письмо для записи палийских текстов.
Гласные бывают двух типов: краткие и долгие. Они произносятся аналогично русским, с некоторыми особенностями:

| Двухбуквенные обозначения: bh, ch, dh, ḍh, gh, jh, kh, ph, th, ṭhуказывают на придыхательные согласные, и считаются одной буквой. Но другие комбинации с h, то есть lh , mh, ñh и vhсчитаются двумя согласными .
ḍ, ḍh, ḷ, ṇ, ṭ, ṭh- ретрофлексивные (языковые) звуки; при их произношении кончик языка немного загибается назад и прижимается к нёбу.
Двойные согласные: произносится каждая из них; например, бб в аббревиатуре, тт в аттракционе.
Слог имеет полную длину, если он: - содержит долгую гласную (ā, ī, ū, e, o); - или стоит перед двумя или более согласными (например , mag·ga, hon·ti, Bud·dha).
Помните, что bh, dh, и т. д. считаются одиночными согласными. (Поэтому am·hā·kaṃ, но sa·dham·maṃ, а не sad·ham·maṃ).
Слог, который заканчивается на краткую гласную, имеет половинную длину.

Усвоив систему произношения и ритма пали, можно научиться декламировать текст с листа.

Если Вам трудно понять теорию декламации (или даже если она Вам совершенно ясна), старайтесь внимательно слушать то, что поет ведущий и группа, и следовать за ними, придерживаясь той же высоты звука, темпа и скорости. Все голоса должны сливаться вместе.
Пунктуация и тоновые знаки
(Круглые скобки) обозначают слова, которые декламируются только ведущим. Слова в [квадратных скобках] декламируются только теми, кто отвечает.
Añjali
Декламирование и формальные просьбы сопровождаются складыванием рук ладонь к ладони перед грудью в "анджали". Это жест уважения, при этом пальцы сложены вместе и направлены вверх.
Примечание об апострофах
Для лучшего понимания некоторые из длинных палийских слов разделены апострофами на те слова, из которых они составлены. Это никак не влияет не произношение текста.
Ударение
Нет точной информации о том, каким было палийское ударение в древности. Вильгельм Гейгер в книге "Язык и литература пали" пишет, что судя по всему, оно такого же типа, как в санскрите.
А как пишет А.А.Зализняк в "Грамматическом очерке санскрита":
"При современном устном воспроизведении санскрита (кроме стихотворных текстов) к нему обычно применяют латинское правило ударения, а именно: в двусложных словах ударение на первом слоге; в многосложных оно на предпоследнем слоге, если этот слог долгий (т.е. если гласная этого слога долгая или если она отделена от гласной следующего слога более чем одной согласной), в противном случае - на третьем от конца."
